My dad is getting a PS3 for the Blu-ray, but obviously I'm interested in the games aspect, and my dad is willing to share. :)

However, I have no idea what kind of games I should be interested in getting.  I'm still a big Nintendo fan, I'm not a fan of blood (horribly disgusted by it, actually), and the only FPSes that I've ever played and liked were/are the Metroid Prime games.  I really haven't followed the PS3 (up until now of course), so I don't really know what's out there for it.

So my question for you is, what games do you think I should look into for the system?  Keep in mind the following things:
1) The fact that I like Nintendo games
2) Not a huge fan of gore and blood (cool with alien blood)
3) My dad said he would like to be able to play games with me, so good multiplayer is a plus
4) I like adventure, RPGs (turn-based, real-time), strategy, simulations, platformers... many people on here already know the kind of games I like
5) I have never owned a PS2, so I'm extremely interested in worthwhile games for that system as well, especially since I could get them more cheaply!  Edit:  According to Trondheim, this is pointless criteria :(
6) I already want LittleBigPlanet, and whatever Katamari Damacy games I can get my hands on (how's the backwards compatibility on those?)
7) I'm interested in both games that are released and those coming out

Don't worry about fitting all of the criteria, I really just want to know some awesome games that I should look into.  Also, if you know any good "must-have" lists, I'd appreciate links.  Thanks in advance!

Woops, just saw you said you wanted LBP.

The newer PS3 models lack PS2 backwards compatibility completely, unfortunately, however some older models (like the ones that were available at launch until the middle of 2008) have it, though.

Are you OK with racing titles? If so, then Full Auto 2: Battlelines is an excellent multiplayer racing game.

As for FPS's, I know you're not a fan of them, but the Orange Box and Call of Duty 4 are really a couple of games to look into. Especially the Orange Box, unless you already have it for PC or something.

That's all I got, really. Good hunting! ;D

Seriously?!  Well, that utterly sucks.

Why must they all keep us apart, Katamari?!  Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!

Yeah, I know. I think they removed it because they wanted to cut down on costs.

Well, if you didn't own the PS2 (you should get one, they're great, I finally found mine and use it, only for GH 1 and 2 though), and if you don't like blood or gore, than the best game for the PS3 from which I've heard (I need to get a 360 or PS3 someday), Metal gear Solid 4, isn't for you, seeing you won't like the blood or understand the storyline at all. I guess that FF13 will be a no brainer for you.
Maybe you should get Lair

JUST KIDDING
that game apparently sucks.

Yea, they did that to cut down on costs, so the PS3 went from $600 to $400 or something. :P

Anyways, yea, you'll definitely want to research what SKU of PS3 you get before you buy one!
I can't stress that enough, there's literally 4 or more different versions with different features they have or lack.
It's madness.

I've only played LittleBigPlanet, Soul Calibur 4, and Rock Band 2 on PS3 and have enjoyed all 3, from what I've played. BioShock is also out for PS3, too, definitely an M game worth playing...though that one may be too gross for you at parts.

We got the PS3 today, we're currently in the middle of a system update... do they always take so long?! O_o  We don't have any games, but I plan on checking out some demos at some point.

Cool. Maybe The Orange Box? No wait... that's got gore in it.

I don't know what to suggest besides the already mentioned LBP.

I don't think that the Orange Box has much "gore" in it, though it can get a little bloody at times.

Um... hm... I don't own a PS3, so I'd probably end up just suggesting games I've played on the PC that are also for PS3, so... I got nothing to suggest further then.

It also has some blood, doesn't it?
Or maybe not that much?
Huh, maybe it's not that much...

Man, when you get down to it, picking a hardcore system's quality games is hard if we're ruling out violence, isn't it? What does THAT tell you? :P

I'm okay with some blood, like when someone gets hit and there's some blood.  I'm not cool with when someone gets hit and they start gushing or an arm comes off, etc.  I've always wanted to try Portal, but I'm not interested in Half-Life 2 at all, and even though I've heard Team Fortress 2 is fun, I don't know anything about it.

Don't get the PS3 version of the Orange Box.  Team Fortress 2 was not created by Valve at all in the PS3 version as Valve didn't believe it would be possible to emulate the PC version.

CoD 4 is a must, and World at War is a good option too.

Don't get any of the Resistance games, trust me here.

Final Fantasy XIII is a must... When in the next 10 years.

I'm running out of ideas... Fast.

Metal Gear Solid 4 !!!

Errr...

Guitar Hero?

As of for COD4, Sonicboom, that game has almost no blood in it. It's also really fun (I played it at my cousin's house). Get it.
Don't get MGS4. Unless you get the first three as well.

Do not listen to the rantings of this mad man.

You should also try Devil May Cry 4.

I'd also like to add that it seems kind of pointless to me to get a PS3 only for the blu ray (I know you're gonna play it for the games, but bare with me here).

Its kinda like marrying a super model who cooks for you but you won't have sex with her.

Not quite... more like you married her for her cooking and the sex is just an added bonus.  :P

But that's mildly inappropriate...

Or, it's like the sex didn't affect the deal but you'll go ahead and do it anyway.

Okaaaaay, let's stop talking about sex... right now.  Gonna stop right now.  I'm writing a petition.  Can't talk about that when I'm writing a petition...

My dad wanted a Blu-ray player, and the PS3 seemed like the best option.  Plus his brother has one... scratch that, two.  Gotta keep up with the sibling. :P

I would suggest CoD4, but since you don't seem interested in HL2...

Will you play any of the games online?
