*scratches head* You should read the inheritance series(Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr, with a new book coming out some time this year) by christopher Paolini. Great fantasy books, but the movie (which I've never saw nor plan to) looks very cheesey and low budget. Don't watch it. also, if you like fantasy books, you should read some manga.

I love the Inheritance series. I'm very anxiously awaiting the next book, though I will be paying a visit to Barnes and Noble to check out that new book that's full of illustrations of Alagaesia. I think its called Eragon's Guide to Alagaesia or something? Idk, but its written by Eragon (as in, he is the narrator), and it has really awesome looking illustrations and information about a ton of topics.

Plus the deluxe Brisingr edition. Not buying it, but I'll check out the Galbatorix drawing it has, two deleted scenes from the book, and apparently a guide to Dwarf runes :P

I really like the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. The author just died a little while ago and Brandon Sanderson is using all of Roberts notes and talks with other people to finish the last three books the first of which just came out.

I'm sorry, but Eragon is just awful. I don't want to get into a debate over WHY it's awful, as I believe happened last time we talked about Eragon, and I am going to read the last book when it comes out simply because I've read the others and may as well finish the series.

Wheel of Time... never read any, but I'm kind of put off by the fact that Jordan died before finishing.

My favourite fantasy series is A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin; it's the best fantasy out there in my opinion, and yes that includes Tolkien. It has really complex, shades-of-grey characters who are all very likable (or indeed, hate-able, and in some cases both at once), an interesting plot that seriously does not go where you expect. So yeah, I definitely recommend it to, well, anyone really.

Do not worry about Roberts death there are still eleven great books where he was the author and although I have not read the newest one since I am still rereading the older ones I heard that it is just as good. Also he left hundreds of hours of notes and  told a lot of people how he wanted it to end. I would recommend at least trying it.

I would have to agree with Fiend Kraken about Eragon, compared to other series  it does not have the depth that many other series i have read.

As for A Song of Ice and Fire I have only read the first four (if the fifth is out by now) but it is very good although one of the darker series I have read.

Oh one more thing find out if you have any used book stores near you, the two near me are very cheap and have a large selection of everything not just books. I usually find books for at least half off what they would be at Borders.

I dont think its a great book either. I dont think its bad though, I mean, I've read worse.
I already started it, so I might as well finish it. I enjoy reading it anyway, and that's what counts, isn't it?

Ouch, Borders. Not sure if it's closed over in the US, but the British branch of the company is completely closed, which really saddens me. Anyway, I think I'll give Wheel of Time a try since it's so well-liked.

And nope, the fifth book of ASoiaF is STILL not out D:

I love the Inheritance trilogy, but you're right about the movie.  It was really short for a movie you expect to be 2.5 hours long.

Oh gawd...the movie...not the movie....it was bad in every aspect, except maybe the depictions of Saphira and maybe Durza, but everything else seemed to wrong.

Well Eragon was never really described much, so who knows if the protagonist fits or not. And Brom was spectacular, but he couldn't save the movie alone. It was just a bad movie

Well, Eragon was described as having dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. I'm not sure if sandy blond and green eyes really fit that description :P

Jeremy Irons was great as Brom.  I think it was Jeremy Irons, wasn't it?

Yep, it was him. I really liked him too. I kept hoping his death was far off so he didn't have to stop being part of the movie :P

I love the book The Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer. I found it while looking at the kid section in the library. It is really good, and I don't get why it's a kids book. It is really violent, and has lots of dark themes, like peoples spirits wandering off. It has vikings! ;D

the wheel of time was mentioned above and is indeed great. The sanderson/jordan combo on the latest book also seemed to work well and has been the best book in the series since the first few.

I also recommend Sanderson's other stories. Elantris was suprisingly good and his Mistborn trilogy is among my favorite set of books ever.

Anything by Diana Wynne Jones (author of Howl's Moving Castle). Her books may not be written for someone of your age (they seem like middle school books) but she's really imaginative.

haha, some of my favorite books are middle school level books.   They are usually quite fun to read.

Middle school level books have less symbolism, and thus less likely to be used in some sort of class discussion.

I read Brave Story, the actual book, if you can believe it. It was pretty good, it seems to be like a kid's book until you actually read it. Beware if you can find it, it takes awhile for it to get to the fantasy part but it is worth it.
