Today I received a lovely e-mail from Evelyn over at Viz confirming that they will be publishing The Legend of Zelda Manga across the United States, with a release date of 7th October, 2008 for the first volume.
Many people have been speculating about what game this manga will be, and naturally most of the speculation was true and it is Ocarina of Time. Naturally there is a lack of information on Viz's front as this information should never have been leaked to the internet, and they didn't have any information in regards to this.
However, we do have the descriptions of the two mangas, and they are as follows:
Volume 1
In the mystical land of Hyrule, three spiritual stones hold the key to the Triforce, and whoever holds them will control the world. A boy named Link sets out on a quest to deliver the Emerald, the spiritual stone of the forest, to Zelda, Princess of the land of Hyrule. The journey will be long and perilous, and Link will need all his skill and courage to defeat evil. The battle for Hyrule and the Sacred Realm has begun!
Volume 2 After completing his training Link begins his journey to seek the remaining Sages. Meanwhile, Ganondorf continues looking for Princess Zelda and plotting to capture Link with the aid of the witches known as Twinrova. At the urging of the mysterious Sheik, Link enters the Haunted Wasteland to find Zelda. The journey will be dangerous but Link is determined to overcome the Twinrova's traps and survive to face Ganondorf in an epic final battle!
So, that's out this October in America, currently there's no UK release date at the moment, however, Viz are normally pretty quick at getting manga across the water to the UK.

Go buy it. Then we'll get more. Besides Ocarina of Time Young Link/Adult Link volumes, we have A Link to the Past, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, The Minish Cap, Four Swords Adventures Volume 1 and Four Swords Adventures Volume 2. Maybe they'll make a The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Phantom Hourglass one, too (get on them in Japan to do it).

I just hope Viz doesn't mess it up. :/ I wish they'd bring the Majora's Mask volumes here as well... And actually, they did make a Wind Waker manga! ^^ Although, it isn't a full-fledged story - just a few short yonkoma (four-paneled comic strips). More info on that here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=9721

I doubt it, there are so many fan translations out there that are all top-notch that everything should be fine in the long run .

This looks as bad as the CDI games. I'm sad to see this come to the US.

Have you actually read the manga or are you just judging something, that's actually good, against something that isn't actually as bad as people make it out to be.
Having played the CD-i Zelda games, I can say that the only truly poor game is Wand of Gamelon, and even that's only poor because of the awkward controls and poor VA.

This is really good news, I would definetly buy it if they brought it out in the UK.

Eiji Aonuma was a consultant on every single Zelda Manga made by Akira Himekawa, so they are official Nintendo products, but they are not part of the video game series, but their own series in terms of "canon".

I don't understand the point of making a manga based on already-existing games.

I am eager to see the translation on this. I have read some fan translations and they are pretty much accurate but some lines and such are a tiny bit off. When I looked at my Japanese version of the manga I notciced that in some fan translations they choose to leave out some words...but I guess that is understandable because the Japanese sentence structure can be played around with.

I really enjoyed reading the Ocarina of Time manga, so I'm most certainly going to buy this.

[R] 1/3 of me thinks this is soooo stupid.....

Haha. When I was in high school, I would download fan translations in the computer lab and print them off (free printing! Woot!!!) I could only print off maybe 20 pages or so or else the lab monitor would notice, cuz you're only supposed to use the printer for school stuff. Anyways, it took me a month an a half to print off all of Ocarina of Time (vols 1 and 2) and the Majoras Mask manga. I hole punched them and put them in a binder. I still have them.
That said, I will probably still buy the Viz manga, because I'm all for supporting more LoZ manga coming to the states.
